This award recognizes an outstanding graduate research assistant in the College. Any faculty member may submit a nomination. A letter of nomination should include those qualities of the RA that distinguish him/her from others, including quality of research effort, other evidence of success such as published papers, presentations, posters at professional meetings, and any other unique activities or research efforts.
The CNR winner competes for the Robins RA of the year. The Dean’s office will forward a portfolio for the CNR RA of the year to the Graduate Student Senate office (TSC 318) by a date announced each year (generally late February). The Robins RA/TA of the Year Committee will review portfolios for each college nomination and select one RA and one TA of the Year for the University.
Criteria
The nominee must be:
- A matriculate graduate student
- Employed both Fall and Spring semesters (2009-2010) as a GRA, GTA, GGA, or GI
Nomination Materials
Nominees and nominators should review the following criteria for each award as part of
the process. Nomination packet should include:
- Cover page with name, department, graduate level (master’s, doctoral)
- Curriculum Vitae
- No more that three letters of support (writers should use specific examples of RA’s effectiveness)
- Statement by the candidate (two pages maximum)
- Summary of research projects, grants, presentations, and recent publications, with an emphasis on USU involvement
- Supporting materials (e.g., published articles)
- Students must be employed as a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA), Graduate Instructor (GI), or General Graduate Assistant (GGA) for the full year.
To allow adequate time for the CNR nominee to assemble materials, selection should be made
two weeks prior to ASUSU’s deadline. It is often uncomfortable for the recipient to ask for
letters of support, so it’s nice if the department office help gather information for the nomination
packet. There are example packets in the Dean’s Office, NR 108.
After making a selection, please meet with the Dean to ensure that he verifies eligibility and
approves of the candidate before announcing our nomination.
