Follow the steps below to install ESRI ArcGIS 9.x with a parrallel or USB port key.
- find c:\boot.ini in windows explorer and right-click on it and select properties
- deselect read-only and click on ok
- double-click on boot.ini and then change /NoExecute=OptIn to /NoExecute=AlwaysOff - save and close the file
- Remove any previous versions of ArcGIS/ArcInfo and ESRI License manager (Click Start then Control Panel then open Add Remove Programs.)
- Put the parrallel port Sentinal license key on or insert the USB Sentinal key.
- Insert the ArcGIS 9 Desktop CD "Disk #1".
- The ArcGIS 9 install window should pop up. Click on Install ArcGIS License Manager. If the ArcGIS 9 install window does not pop up, try this: Click on the Start button then click on Run then type in d:\startup and then press enter. Replace d: with the drive letter of your CDROM.
- The license file needs to be read in next. The text from an e-mail (the information from START_LICENSE to END_LICENSE) should have been saved to a text file. Now click on the Browse button in the Import License File dialogue box. Find your file (you may need to select All files (*.*) in the Files of type: drop down list and select your license text file.
- Click on Next a couple of times then click on Install.
- After installing the license manager you may click the Finish button to restart your system or to continue without rebooting do this: Click on No and then click on Finish click on OK to remove the Notice then click on Start then Run then type in net start "arcgis license manager" and then press enter. Now eject the CD and then insert it again then follow step 4 again. After following step 4 go to step 8.
- Click on Install ArcGIS Desktop.
- Click on Next then click on I accept this license agreement then click on Next again.
- You should now see on the License Manager dialog box: Use the License Manager on "your computer name". Now click Next.
- Arcinfo is the default selection on this dialog. Click Next to continue.
- Click on the Complete option then click on Next four times.
- The installation of ArcGis Desktop should now begin.... Go and do something else for a little bit or just sit back and enjoy the installation while humming the Jeopardy song.
- After 5-10 minutes, the dialog ArcGIS Desktop has been successfully installed. At this dialog, click on the Finish button.
- You should now see the Additional Installation Components Dialog. Click on OK to continue with the Default selections (all items checked.) If you deselect any of the Items, you will not be promted for the CD for that option.
- These instructions will now continue assuming that ArcGIS Desktop and any components you select are now installed.
- If you want the Software Documentation installed stick on CD "Disk #2".
- When the dialogue pops up, click on Next, Click on Accept then click on Next three times to begin the install then click Finish when the Docs install is done.
- Now stick in the ArcGIS 9 ArcInfo Workstation CD "Disk #1".
- Click Next on the Installation Type dialogue.
- Click Next to use the default License Manager.
- Click Next on the Welcome to the ArcInfo Workstation Setup dialogue.
- Click on Accept on the License Agreement dialogue then click on Next.
- Now click on the Complete option then click on Next four times to begin the install.
- Time for humming the Jeopardy song again for 10-15 minutes.
- When the installer is done, click on Finish.
- You may now want to copy the ArcInfo Docs to your system.
- Stick the ArcDDoc for ArcInfo Workstation CD in. Copy the Help folder on the CD over to a location of your choice on your hard drive.
- Now remove the CD and return the install packet back to Bonnie Banner.
- ArcGIS 9 should now be ready to use.
