Environmental Education Program
Our environment receives much attention! Headlines announce
environmental events and issues from all over the globe. Healthy
communities are closely linked to healthy environments.
Program Goal: In the Department of Environment and Society,
College of Natural Resources, the Environmental Education Program
focuses on furthering our understanding of and communication
about human-environment interactions through courses, fieldwork,
research, and service projects. Our program goal is to explore our
connection to the environment by making information accessible,
appropriate, and objective. We aspire to create engaging ways to
deliver these messages to a variety of audiences.
At USU, environmental education is an interdisciplinary program.
Although our program has an ecological foundation, our students
gain exposure to a variety of topics and studies, such as history,
literature, sociology, business, and education.
Program
Benefits: There are many benefits associated with our
interdisciplinary environmental education program, such as a better
understanding of human-environment interactions, a broad base of
knowledge in many disciplines, and increased skills and tools to
share and instruct others about the values and benefits of healthy
environments.
Graduates of USU, with an emphasis in environmental education,
have found employment with federal land management agencies
such as the National Park Service, USDA Forest Service, Bureau
of Land Management, and Bureau of Reclamation; various state,
county, and community agencies; non-governmental organizations;
non-profit environmental education organizations; for-profit
companies offering outdoor recreational and educational activities
and services; public and private K-12 schools; and private
consulting firms involved in natural resource and environmental
conservation.
