Interdisciplinary Graduate Certificate Program in Natural Resources and Environmental Education
Graduate students interested in environmental education can focus their
studies through this program. This certificate encourages students to gain
a focused foundation for understanding and communicating natural
resources and environmental information related to their major. The
program also promotes development of analytical skills necessary to
effectively implement appropriate environmental education and
communication techniques for different audiences.
Our program combines environmental education with the field of
interpretation. Environmental Education involves formal and non-formal
audiences within a learning context using national Environmental
Education curricula, state education standards, learning theories, and
issue based studies. Natural Resources Interpretation, as an educational
activity, aims to reveal meanings and relationships of humans and their
environment through the use of prop-based learning, field based
experiences, and illustrative media, such as brochures, displays, exhibits,
along with interpretive planning and evaluation.
