The Kettenring Lab addresses both basic and applied questions related to wetland ecology, plant ecology, seed ecology, and restoration.

Our research has been conducted in prairie pothole wetlands in Minnesota and Iowa and brackish wetlands in the Chesapeake Bay.  The wetland resources of Utah are vast and varied - from salt marshes of the Great Salt Lake to riparian wetlands to seasonal playas to sedge meadows.  Here we will continue to investigate questions relating to:

  • What limits the restoration of wetland plant communities?

  • What role do plant species and genetic diversity play in restoring the structure and function of wetlands?
  • What makes invasive plants successful and how can we best manage them in wetland systems?
